Norwich

For seven centuries Norwich was one of the biggest and most important cities in England. Trade and agriculture brought the city great wealth and its links were traditionally as much with Europe as the rest of the UK.

Norwich’s past is rich with Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Hugenots, Parliamentarians, dissenters and radicals. Their legacies can be seen all around you in this beautiful city.

Today, Norwich is again emerging as one of England’s great cities. Largely by-passed by the
Industrial Revolution, its streets reflect a dynamic, pre-industrial past and are energised by a vibrant cultural scene and daring new buildings.

"Either a city in an orchard or an orchard
in a city"
Thomas Fuller 1662

With 23 parks and trees in abundance, Norwich is a wonderfully green city with riverside walks that take in many of its heritage attractions. The city’s brilliant market is open everyday bar Sundays and Norwich is renowned for its shops, cafés and restaurants – many of them independent ones.
